During the evening hours yesterday, the Port Authority of Alonnisos was informed by members of the Alonnisos Fire Brigade about an incident of a fire breaking out on a sailing vessel (S/V) of Greek flag in the area “STENI VALA” of Alonnisos.
Personnel from the H.C.G. went to the scene with a patrol vehicle and a H.C.G. patrol vessel (PLS) as well as a unit of the Fire Service with three vehicles which proceeded to extinguish the fire.
The S/V sank and caused a small-scale marine pollution, while the local response plan was implemented with the placement of an absorbent boom.
The four foreign (citizens of Great Britain) passengers of the vessel were outside the vessel when the fire broke out and are in good health. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Port Authority of Alonnisos.
