Greek Global Ship Lease, a company chartering a fleet of
owned container ships, has abandoned its
strategy based on buying second-hand vessels to equip itself
with newly built container ships. The Athens-based
company, in fact, has announced that it has signed contracts for the
construction of ten medium-sized, wide-beam container ships
with high reefer container capacity for a
total value of approximately 917 million dollars. The ships will be
delivered between the fourth quarter of 2028 and the first quarter of
2030. GSL has stated that, once delivered, the ten
units will be chartered under multi-year contracts with an
average duration of 6.7 years and that the charter rates will generate an
adjusted EBITDA of approximately 665 million dollars over the
duration of the contracts.
