On May 6, the second vessel of the dangerous goods transport ship series — “Chang’an II”, built by CSSC Guijiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for the Hong Kong Marine Department for the first time, was delivered on schedule in Hong Kong. Together with “Chang’an I”, delivered by the company in March 2026, these vessels form the new-generation main fleet for dangerous goods transport in Hong Kong waters, significantly enhancing the safety and efficiency of dangerous goods transport in Hong Kong and providing reliable logistics support for projects such as urban infrastructure and hillside development.
The delivered “Chang’an II” represents a comprehensive upgrade from basic transport to intelligent safety, spanning 27 years of technological iteration since the first-generation “Chang’an” series ships in 1998. Compared with 27 years ago, the new-generation vessels have achieved breakthrough advancements in explosion-proof safety, intelligent management, and green environmental protection. Enhanced explosion-proof safety: The hull adopts a hybrid structure of high-strength steel and aluminum alloy, balancing structural strength and lightweight requirements; the cargo area is equipped with multiple explosion-proof detection systems to ensure full control during the transport of explosive goods. Green technology empowerment: Equipped with a solar power supply system to meet the electricity needs of all 220V equipment on board; the main engine is fitted with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) denitrification device, with emissions meeting the international Tier III standard; the domestic sewage treatment device and oil skimmer ensure zero pollution in the waters. Core parameters benchmarked internationally: “Chang’an II” has a total length of 33 meters, a beam of 7 meters, a design speed of 18.5 knots, a deadweight of 12.5 tons, and is classed by RINA. Its twin-engine, twin-propeller propulsion system and optimized hull design enable stable navigation under complex sea conditions, meeting the high-frequency, high-safety-standard dangerous goods transport needs in Hong Kong waters.
The successful delivery of the “Chang’an” series vessels marks renewed international recognition of China’s high-end special shipbuilding capabilities and sets a new benchmark for maritime safety cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With the transformation of the intelligent green ship industry and the deepening of maritime collaboration in the Greater Bay Area, Guijiang Shipbuilding Company will take the “Chang’an” series vessels as a model, continue to develop intelligent and environmentally friendly special vessels, promote the advancement of China’s shipbuilding industry toward high-end and international levels, and provide dual support for regional economic development and ecological protection.
