The port of Huelva has a new double ro-ro ramp intended for the berthing of ferry-type vessels at the south dock, which will increase the movement of general merchandise exports and imports in the Huelva port, through /roll-off cargo. The works consisted of the construction of an access platform, several mooring and berthing dolphins, a boarding footbridge, and a floating ramp. “We have made a significant investment effort to equip the south dock with new infrastructures like this new double ro-ro ramp, which will be added to the existing one, promoting the establishment of new shipping companies and the expansion of markets,” commented Alberto Santana, president of the Port Authority of Huelva at the inauguration ceremony, where he was accompanied by the president of Puertos del Estado, Gustavo Santana.
Precisely, the president of Puertos del Estado stated that this work “responds to the enormous commitment of the State ports to improving competitiveness by making investments like this infrastructure to increase port capacity, but also investments in sustainability, digitalization, and security, are contributing to transforming the state-owned port system to face present and future challenges,” indicated Gustavo Santana.
These facilities will enable the operation of four ferry-type vessels simultaneously, for the loading and unloading of merchandise as /roll-off cargo in trucks and trailers that are transported on vessels operating regular maritime services between Huelva, the Canary Islands, and Morocco. At the south dock, more than one million tons of goods are moved in a year, of which more than half a million are transported via /roll-off traffic. The project has been completed with the fitting of the necessary lighting, electricity, and traffic light control facilities.
