A conflict between the port union and Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP) escalated in the last few hours and several vessels canceled their calls at the Port of Montevideo, Uruguay. The confrontation is over the implementation of the new Navis N4 operating system in the container operating company.
In line with what was reported by El Observador, a vessel linked to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) was stranded at the terminal for more than a day and decided to move to a public dock to be able to operate normally.
In turn, three vessels from the companies Ocean Network Express (ONE), Maersk and MSC canceled their call at the Montevideo port facility, moving their operations to Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to reports, the vessels kept on board containers with Uruguayan imports that will be unloaded at Brazilian ports.
In addition, a vessel from Hapag-Lloyd and another from Maersk are sailing to Buenos Aires to then continue their route to Montevideo. However, if the conflict continues, it is already planned that calls to the local station will be canceled.
Port operations at TCP, a company in which the Belgian Katoen Natie is the majority shareholder with 80% of the ownership, which it shares with the Uruguayan State that owns the remaining 20%, have been interrupted since October 2.
