The Port Authority of Szczecin and Swinoujscie joined the international DeCoInter project, which aims to drive the energy transformation of the ports in the southern Baltic Sea.

This initiative seeks to have the region’s terminals lead the green transformation of the maritime and transport sectors, encompassing both the supply and demand of the energy system, and ensuring technical preparedness, strategic coherence, and regional coordination.

The plan includes the development of a methodological framework for port energy transformation strategies, including the definition of infrastructure priorities and policy guidelines.

A model for the creation of a value chain for sustainable fuels will also be developed, covering their production, transport, distribution, and consumption. A key element will be raising awareness among port entities about low-emission technologies, energy efficiency, and the applicable regulatory framework.

In parallel, work will be done on digital tools to support decision-making regarding investments and emission reductions. The project also fosters cross-sectoral and cross-border collaboration, involving public administration, port operators, universities, and the energy sector.

Specialized educational and training programs for students and professionals related to maritime logistics and renewable energy sources are also planned.

DeCoInter promotes the use of alternative fuels and develops emission monitoring tools. The project will offer a set of practical and strategic solutions, including a digital tool for planning the energy transition in ports, a unified methodology for developing energy strategies, a scenario model for the sustainable fuel value chain, and implementation modules tested in pilot ports.

Educational programs tailored to the needs of the maritime sector will also be developed, as well as the Regional Cluster for the Seaports Energy Transition (RCSET), a collaborative platform that fosters knowledge exchange and ensures a lasting impact.

Partners from Poland, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany are collaborating to achieve more sustainable and modern maritime transport in the region, supporting the decarbonization process and the achievement of climate goals.
