The Port of Barcelona has incorporated a drone nest into its port protection network to make security operations more efficient. This innovative system ensures a drone is always available and operational almost immediately to complement the systems that guarantee security within the port premises.
This new system represents a qualitative leap in the use of drones in the security operations of the Port of Barcelona, as it improves the response capacity to emergencies and threats, while also providing support for infrastructure inspection tasks, generating high-precision orthophotos, and broadcasting real-time images from areas where conventional cameras cannot access.
The new device, a DJI Dock 3, is technically known as a drone-in-the-box system which, as the name implies, consists of a physical station that houses and charges the drone when not in use, while also allowing for remote takeoff and landing. This system has been installed in a location that covers the entire port premises.
Thus, in case of need and thanks to the 5G network deployed at the Port of Barcelona, the Port Protection department can control the drone immediately from the same Port Police Control Center and fly it to any point in the port.
The DJI Dock 3 system has been incorporated into the Port of Barcelona as part of a collaboration with the company INSTOP, which facilitated the deployment with the aim of carrying out operational tests and advancing the integration of this technology within the strategy of digitization and innovation applied to security. The installation at the Port of Barcelona allows these tests to be developed in a real environment, while simultaneously adding value to the activities of the partner company.
