The Board of Directors of the Port de Barcelona has definitively approved the concession of a new automobile terminal to Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK).

The Japanese shipping company, one of the most important in the world and with the second largest fleet of ships dedicated to automobile transport, won the tender for the concession of what will be the third terminal dedicated to vehicle traffic in the Port de Barcelona, which was approved at the Board of Directors meeting held last April.

This was the final step before beginning the construction works for the new terminal, which will start in the coming months.

NYK will invest 75 million euros in the construction of the new terminal, which is public, will occupy 101,058 m2 at the Príncep d’Espanya wharf, and will strengthen the Port de Barcelona as an international hub for the automotive sector.

The concession for the new automobile terminal, which will be operational at the beginning of 2027, has a term of 27 years.
