Port of Wilmington welcomes new summer fruit service

Must read

GT USA Wilmington (GTW) has received its first shipment of summer fruit into the Port of Wilmington, Delaware, from the West Coast of South America.

The citrus fruits were delivered from Valparaiso, Chile to the port by the M/V EVEREST BAY, a refrigerated cargo ship, as part of a new fortnightly service which will operate until October.

The 2,200 pallets of new cargo were brought through the port by Seatrade and Global Reefers.

Cedric Dehez, CEO of Global Reefers, stated that the service would help to satisfy customer needs through its dedicated specialised vessels.

Joe Cruise, CEO of GTW, said: “It is the start of GTW securing year-round fruits not only from South America, but other origins a well.”

The Port of Wilmington is one of the primary gateways in the US for fresh fruits, with its 2021-2022 winter fruit season featuring a 140% rise in imports of South American and Moroccan produce.
