Rottneros AB has renewed its partnership with AtoB@C Shipping, part of ESL Shipping under the Aspo Group, through a long-term contract aimed at reducing emissions in maritime transport.
The Swedish pulp and molded fiber producer will use AtoB@C Shipping’s new plug-in hybrid vessel for sea traffic to and from its Vallvik mill.
According to the companies, the vessel will cut CO₂ emissions per ton-mile by up to 50% compared with the current vessel operating on the same routes.
“We have been working side by side with AtoB@C Shipping for more than a decade and are happy to continue our partnership. AtoB@C Shipping is developing one of their vessels to fit our specific needs and, for this reason, we want to commit to a long-term contract. Together, we can also concretely show the way to more sustainable sea infrastructure,” said Magnus Malmborg, Supply Chain Manager at Rottneros AB.
As part of the new agreement, AtoB@C Shipping will retrofit one of its plug-in hybrid vessels with a crane.
The self-loading and discharging capability is considered suitable for Rottneros’ port in Vallvik and necessary for its port in Norway, where shore crane capacity is limited.
The feature also enables faster loading in Baltic ports, from which raw materials are mainly supplied.
“We are very pleased to continue serving Rottneros and ensuring steady, safe and more sustainable deliveries in the future. As highlighted in this case, our new energy-efficient vessels can bring significant benefits to our customers, including higher capacity and emission reduction. We have had the same team working for Rottneros for a long time, and they are also excited to continue ensuring timely and efficient deliveries,” said Frida Rowland, Commercial Director of AtoB@C Shipping.
Both AtoB@C Shipping and ESL Shipping operate within the Aspo Group.
Rottneros AB is a publicly listed Swedish company specializing in the production of market pulp and molded fiber products. The company operates pulp mills in Vallvik and Rottneros and focuses on resource-efficient production using renewable forest raw materials.
