Shanghai Customs data shows that in the first half of this year, automobile exports through the Shanghai port exceeded 1.27 million units, a year-on-year increase of 13%, accounting for 36.7% of the country’s total automobile exports during the same period.

From 2020 to 2024, automobile exports through the port surged from 379,000 units to 2.39 million units, with an average annual growth rate of 58.4%.

Located in the Waigaoqiao Port Area of Shanghai, Haitong International Automobile Terminal is one of China’s largest automobile export terminals, with exports reaching 715,000 units in the first half of this year, up 13.7% year-on-year.

Currently, export routes cover 131 countries and regions, with an average of 2 to 3 roll-on/roll-off ships carrying “Made in China” vehicles to global markets every day.

Local customs authorities noted that efficient logistics and streamlined customs clearance are key factors driving this growth, including measures such as appointment services to reduce vessel waiting times and the establishment of “green channels” to prioritize automobile export procedures.
