Concurrently, Mr. Tsakiris described the paradox the market is experiencing: an externally “soft” period, which, however, conceals harsh realities. The aging of the fleet with the so-called “Silver Tsunami,” meaning the ships from 2008–2012, the increase in losses from mechanical failures and fires, as well as the geopolitical upheavals from the Red Sea to the “shadow” fleet, are intensifying the risks. “Marine insurance is a pillar of shipping. We must keep the market resilient and disciplined,” he underscored.
