Interventions on quays, infrastructure, and security are planned to consolidate Brazil’s second largest port as a commercial and tourist hub
Itajaí – The president of the Santos Port Authority (Aps), Anderson Pomini, announced an investment plan of $158.8 million for the modernization of the port of Itajaí, the second largest in Brazil, managed under the supervision of the same Aps which also controls the port of Santos.
Among the main interventions is the removal of the wreck of the ship Pallas, scheduled for the first half of 2026 and estimated at $12.8 million. Negotiations with the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) for the archaeological recovery of the wreck are already underway.
The plan also includes the renovation of the North (Navegantes) and South (Itajaí) quays to improve ship safety and maneuverability, the installation of the Vimis maritime traffic monitoring system ($12.2 million) and the upgrade of electrical substations and lighting ($3.8 million) to enhance nighttime operations.
The customs area will be expanded by 60,000 square meters with new scanners ($2.3 million) and modernized gates ($560,000), in addition to an integrated truck monitoring system to reduce logistical bottlenecks. The SmartPorto project ($5.6 million) will also be implemented, with smart cameras and real-time security control.
Finally, an investment of $56.5 million is planned for the cruise terminal, whose master plan will be presented in February 2026, with the aim of transforming Itajaí into a strategic hub for Brazilian maritime tourism.
