As shipowners and managers invest more heavily in onboard connectivity, attention is turning to how digital services can improve daily life for crews at sea. A new partnership between FrontM, Home2US Communications Inc and GMA Network is placing crew welfare at the centre of that discussion by bringing live Filipino television channels directly onboard commercial vessels.

Under the agreement, GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV will be delivered as 24/7 live linear streams through FrontM’s Loft Multiplex platform. The service does not require additional antennas or major onboard infrastructure changes, giving operators a way to expand crew services using existing connectivity systems.

The development carries particular weight in an industry where Filipino seafarers make up one of the largest national groups in the global maritime workforce. Long contracts and extended periods away from home continue to place pressure on mental health and morale across fleets. Access to familiar news, entertainment and cultural programming is increasingly being viewed as part of wider crew retention and welfare strategies.

GMA Pinoy TV provides news, drama, variety and public affairs content aimed at overseas Filipinos, while GMA Life TV focuses on lifestyle, culture, travel and entertainment programming. The channels will be accessible through shared recreation spaces onboard vessels.

“In today’s operating environment, supporting crew wellbeing and mental health is not optional,” said Venkatesh Ramakrishnan, Lead Product Manager, FrontM and former seafarer. “Shared television experiences are proving to revive the rec-room, bringing crews together after long shifts and restoring a sense of normality and community that on-demand media alone cannot provide.”

The arrangement also offers a practical example of how vessel connectivity investments are being used beyond operational data and compliance functions. The focus is increasingly widening to include welfare, engagement and social connection onboard.

Joseph Francia, First Vice President and Head of International Operations, GMA Network, said: “Filipino seafarers make extraordinary contributions to global shipping while spending long periods away from their families. Through this partnership, we are proud to bring GMA Pinoy and GMA Life TV to crews at sea, helping them stay connected to the stories, news and entertainment that matter most to them, wherever they sail.”

Emrah Ozkan, Founder, CEO and President of Home2US Communications Inc, added: “Maritime crews have long been underserved when it comes to onboard digital experiences and content access. This partnership extends licensed Filipino programming to maritime crews worldwide and represents a breakthrough for seafarers and shipping companies.”
