On Thursday, November 20, 2025, the official welcoming ceremony for the first-year male and female cadets of the School of Master Mariners of the Kalymnos Merchant Marine Academy for the current academic year took place.
The approximately 70 new male and female cadets of the Academy were welcomed on behalf of the Academy by the Commander of the Kalymnos Merchant Marine Academy, Commander HS Georgios Galouzis, as well as the Director of the Academy’s School of Master Mariners, Capt. Manolis Kriaras.
Among the representatives of the local government, those present included Mr. Ioannis Mastrokoukos, Mayor of Kalymnos, and the Prefect of the Kalymnos Regional Unit, Mr. Manolis Mouselis, while the HS was represented by the Port Captain of Kalymnos, Commander HS, Theofilos Tsangaris.
The blessing was performed by His Eminence Metropolitan Paisios of Leros, Kalymnos, and Astypalaia.
In addition to the local authorities and the Academy’s administration, the ceremony was attended by representatives of shipping companies, relatives of the male and female cadets, and members of the local community of Kalymnos.
