Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin has approved the Ksi Lisims LNG project in northern B.C. to move forward under the Impact Assessment Act, following a substituted review led by the province in cooperation with the Nisga’a Nation. While some federal-level impacts on fish, birds, and Indigenous health were deemed significant, the Minister ruled that they are justified in the public interest, given the context of reconciliation, trade diversification, and economic benefits. Proponents must meet legally binding conditions to mitigate the effects and protect Indigenous rights, with follow-up programs in place to ensure compliance.
