The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) was formally welcomed into Canada’s Defence Team during a ceremony at the CCG Base in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, marking its transition under an Order-in-Council last month. The move brings over 6,000 CCG members and some Fisheries and Oceans Canada staff into closer coordination with the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. Defence Minister David McGuinty and CCG Commissioner Mario Pelletier highlighted the strengthened partnership in protecting Canada’s coastlines and maritime interests. The event celebrated decades of collaboration and symbolized a new chapter in Canada’s integrated maritime security efforts.
