NorthPort, the main national gateway of the Philippines, operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc., reinforces its operational capacity with the acquisition of two Konecranes Gottwald ESP 5 Mobile Harbor Cranes (MHC).

The new equipment is fundamental to the terminal’s ongoing program to modernize cargo handling operations, cater to the growing volume of national trade, and guarantee reliable service for customers, shipping lines, and logistics partners.

The ESP 5 quay cranes offer a lifting capacity of 41 tons and a reach of 46 meters across 13 berths. They will be deployed at Berth 10 to enhance Terminal 2’s future readiness, operating alongside the eight quay cranes currently serving Terminal 1. This additional lifting capacity will allow NorthPort to serve more vessels simultaneously, increasing berth productivity and optimizing overall berth utilization.

“This latest equipment acquisition reflects our commitment to anticipating our customers’ needs. Faced with increasing trade volumes, we remain focused on solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of our operations. These new cranes will help us ensure that we maintain the service levels expected by shipping lines, cargo owners, and logistics partners,” stated Justin Tolentino, general manager of NorthPort.

The cranes will undergo final testing and commissioning before entering full commercial operation in December. NorthPort has also placed orders for four new Mitsui hybrid Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes, whose delivery is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.

These hybrid RTGs reduce diesel consumption and maintenance needs, and the current units have already achieved a 49% reduction in carbon emissions, decreasing annual emissions from 2186 tons to an estimated 1109 tons.
